NBU presents circulation commemorative coin “The Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine’s Armed Forces”

On 3 October 2022, the National Bank of Ukraine presented the circulation commemorative coin “The Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine’s Armed Forces.”

The specifications of this coin are identical to the 10-hryvnia circulation coin designed in 2018. At the same time, the coin has a thematic reverse, which celebrates the servicemen of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine’s Armed Forces.

The coin was presented by Deputy NBU Governor Oleksii Shaban and Commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Major General Ihor Tantsiura.

Today, the bulk of the defense forces include people with occupations quite different from military professions: teachers, cultural and scientific figures, entrepreneurs, farmers, IT specialists, bankers and still more professions. The main thing that unites them is solidarity and readiness to take up arms to defend the independence and peaceful future of their homeland. “By issuing circulation commemorative coins that feature military symbols and soldiers of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, the NBU strives to remind millions of Ukrainians during their daily cash payments of the heroic feats performed by Ukrainian soldiers, who defend Ukraine’s right to freedom on the battlefield," said Shaban.

He added that by issuing this new coin into circulation, the NBU continues the practice of minting circulation commemorative coins that feature military symbols and soldiers of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. In future, the NBU plans to issue such coins into circulation several times a year in line with international practice.

‘“Ready to resist’ – the motto of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine’s Armed Forces – is engraved on the coin that we are presenting today. More than one hundred thousand Ukrainians joined the ranks of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. In a rather short time, thousands of people have been transformed into soldiers. Over the seven months of their struggle, Ukrainians have proved that they are ready for resistance and that their resistance can stop the enemy. The coin has a price, but the contribution of soldiers is priceless," said Tantsiura.

This circulation commemorative coin continues the Ukraine’s Armed Forces Series. The reverse depicts two stylized figures of servicemen, the logotype of the Territorial Defense Forces, and their motto: “Ready for Resistance.” The obverse of the coin is identical to the obverse of the 10-hryvnia circulation coin designed in 2018, featuring in the center, surrounded by an Old Rus ornament, the coin’s face value, issue year, and Ukraine’s coat of arms.

Like all other Ukrainian circulation coins, this coin must be accepted at its face value and without limitations for settling all cash payments.

Distributing banks will not sell these coins as numismatic products. The NBU will transfer circulation commemorative coins to banks and cash-in-transit (CIT), which they will distribute to customers and/or take back from clients as ordinary 10-hryvnia circulation coins. Gradually, the NBU will issue about 10 million such circulation commemorative coins into circulation.

A portion of the mintage of these circulation commemorative coins will be placed in a specially designed rolls. These rolls can be purchased from distributing banks: UKRGASBANK, RADABANK, TASCOMBANK, and PrivatBank as souvenir products. Each roll will contain 40 10-hryvnia circulation commemorative coins. Each roll features a holographic element (with a dynamic light effect) depicting the logotypes of the National Bank of Ukraine and the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. The number of rolls for issue is 12,500 units.
